About me
Yukiko (Yuki) Kawada
Osteopathic Manual Practitioner, M.OMSc.
Hi, I am Yuki. I am an osteopathic manual practitioner (OMP). I was born and raised in Japan but moved to Canada in search of a peaceful pace of life close to nature. My passion for snowboarding and the mountains led me to settle in Whistler BC.
I have been involved in sports both competitively and professionally since childhood, I was a competitive figure skater in my youth. When I moved to Canada, I started working as a snowboard instructor, eventually becoming one of the most experienced female instructors in this country. This led to international opportunities I traveled to many countries to teach and mentor other instructors.
Living an active lifestyle in Whistler introduced me to manual therapy through physical conditioning and several injuries. I was grateful to receive treatments from many skilled manual practitioners here in Whistler and this inspired me to become a manual practitioner. I studied massage therapy as a starting point, and I have been working as a massage practitioner for over ten years.
I remember my first osteopathic treatment, I was impressed by the effectiveness of the treatment given via such gentle and non-invasive application. The principle of osteopathy considers the body as a whole unit of function appealed to me. That is one of the reasons why I decided to study osteopathy and become an osteopathic manual practitioner. I completed a 4-year full-time program with more than 4200 hours of clinical practice and hands-on experience at the Canadian Academy of Osteopathy in Hamilton, Ontario. I hold the diploma of Master in Practice of Osteopathic Manipulating Science (M.OMSc), and I am a member of OSTCAN.
My treatment approach is to work with the patient's body using gentle and non-invasive techniques offering a pain-free and calming treatment. This helps the body to realign its structures, inducing the body’s self-healing properties and restoring healthy conditions. The effects of osteopathy treatment work best when the body is relaxed. Osteopathy searches for and treats the root cause of the problems allowing the body to restore its healthy conditions.
For treatment application, I use anatomical connection of fascia, muscles, ligaments, and bones to deliver the right amount of force to the body. This restores alignment, proper range of motion, as well as open nerve channels, and blood flow to induce the body’s own self-healing properties.
I am very excited that the osteopathic skills I learned can help people maintain or restore health so that they may continue to enjoy their lifestyle. I have been helped by so many great manual practitioners these past few years; I feel it is my turn to contribute and help others with my osteopathic skills.
I continue to teach and coach snowboarding during the winter as it is still my passion, and in the summer, mountain biking and hiking are my favourite activities. I enjoy traveling and experiencing new cultures. I speak English, French, and Spanish, as well as my native language, Japanese.
