Osteopathy
What is Osteopathy ?
Osteopathy is a manual therapy with a holistic approach. The principle of osteopathy considers the body as a dynamic unit of function and emphasizes the interrelationship between the structure and the function of the body.
The osteopathic manual practitioner promotes the body's self-healing capacity through manual treatment. The treatment goal is to restore proper body mechanics, nerve impulses, and circulation of the body fluids. By realigning the structures of the body, improving the mobility of the joints, and releasing restriction of the fascia, muscles, and ligaments, the body is supported in its restoration of proper mechanics allowing it to open the channel of the nerve impulses and circulation of the body fluids and to reduce muscle and joint pain.
The goal of osteopathy is to find health rather than focus on disease. The Osteopathic manual practitioner focuses on finding and treating the root cause of the problem leading to the overall healthy state of each individual.
The benefits of osteopathic treatment
gentle and non-invasive treatment tends to be calming for the nervous system and enhances the relationship between mind and body
reduce muscle and joint pain in both acute and chronic conditions
restore proper body mobility to joints and tissues, producing well-balanced posture
improve circulation and fluid exchange within the body to promote the body’s self-healing, self-regulating capacities.
What to expect from Osteopathic treatment
Osteopathic manual practitioners apply a range of manual, hands-on treatment approaches. These could feel like stretching, compressing, oscillation, muscle activation/resistance, and guided deep breathing.
Each treatment will always come with visual assessments and motion assessments to identify the root cause of the patient’s problems. Treatment can include the following positions: seated, lying on your back, lying face down, and lying on either side. Please inform your practitioner if you have difficulty receiving treatment in a certain position.
Each treatment is catered to the needs of the patient on that day, based on each patient's health condition.
Patients are handled with care and consideration at all times.
Osteopathic treatment is gentle and non-invasive in both its palpation and force delivery.
Osteopathy understands that the body is not individual segments or systems but rather a collections of systems and parts all working together. This means that the symptoms being felt by the patient may be the result of other causes that needed to be resolved first to improve the overall health of the patient.
For some patients, please remember it is possible to experience tenderness after treatment for up to 72 hours
Noticing improvements after treatment will be different from person to person. Each patient has a unique health history, but most patients feel a noticeable difference between 2-6 treatments.
